Rock’n’roll baby !

ENGLISH VERSION

November 8, 2016 –  We still remember that day, the 15th of July 2014, SPM Prod summoned the great Steve Harris and his band British Lion, for the first time, here in Toulouse. Iron Maiden’s fans were there, happy to meet the legendary bass player and we were all touched by his unpretentiousness, availability and kindness. The artist and his band are back in the Pink City, only two years later…

Voodoo Six is gonna set the ball rolling today. Created in London in 2003, this rock/ heavy metal band toured with Iron Maiden as the main support band on their European Maiden England World Tour in 2014.
It is already 8 pm when the British climb on the stage starting the set with Falling Knives, a purely rock song with some heavy tons, we can even hear a desert rock touch. Their lineup consists of the bass player Tony Newton, the two guitar players Matt Pearce and Craig Price, the drummer Joe Lazarus and the singer Nik Taylor-Stoakes. We can feel that the instrument of the day is the bass, even if the sound is overall very good, the bass clearly stands out. It doesn’t matter at all because the rhythm is one of the strengths of Voodoo Six, their tracks are so groovy. The guys send us their music with an obvious enthusiasm and a nice generosity, the show is dynamic and the crowd is jubilant. Obviously, every single person who hear such catchy tracks such as Sink or Swim or TakeThe Blame wants to move and dance!  Rock’n’roll baby ! The two guitar players deliver us good and galvanizing riffs along with super melodious soli. The bass tone is awesome and provides the right balance of groove and density, emphasizing perfectly the catchy paces swung with verve by the drummer. The singer, who has a beautiful voice that I love, also gratifies us with a great stage presence. He speaks several times and makes a small speech, introducing a new title (stem from their upcoming album) dedicated to the victims of the Paris terror attacks. A touching tribute which sparked a sharply reaction from the audience. People are heated, the members of Voodoo Six excelled at opening the night! We had a great time with them.
If you don’t know Voodoo Six yet and if you enjoy classics such as UFO, Deep Purple or the lasted bands such as Black Spiders or Rival Sons, you should check them out.

Quick break, some time to arrange the stage before Steve Harris British Lion arrive. Despite the fame of Steve Harris, the place is not full, far from it. This is not a big surprise because there are too many concerts these day in Toulouse. Moreover, the band has not released any new album since their last venue. British Lion is currently their single full-length album. Even if I am not a big fan of their music, I still have a nice memory of their show in 2014, that is why I am glad to see them again.
9.15 pm, the fans are looking forward to see the legendary bass player. The intro sounds while Simon Dawson settles behind his drum kit. The band begins with This is my God, the first track of the album. Both guitar players, Graham Leslie and David Hawkins come on stage, followed by Steve Harris, cheered by the crowd as soon as he appears. The vocalist Richard Taylor joins them. Neither surprise about the show, the British Lion are, as usual, active and very smiling. The fun they have while playing is not feigned and they submit their music with an overflowing and communicative energy. All the crowd keep their eyes riveted on the great Steve Harris. He roams the stage, making the strings of his bass vibrate, strafing frequently people standing in the front row. The bass player sticks to himself and we clearly feel the “Maiden touch” both in sounds and attitude, therefore, Maiden’s fans won’t be disappointed. The setlist is somewhat different, comprising some new stuff filling it the old ones. They will also play their inescapable UFO cover, Let it Roll pushing all the aficionados singing. The atmosphere is friendly, perfect to fulfill the audience, the young ones and the older ones too. Richard Taylor gives everything, I am not a big fan of his voice which is nevertheless pure and proper. I think he is charming though, hidden behind his cap, rewarding us with his smile and his funny mimics during all the show. The British will do an encore without an encore, optimizing the time and come to greet the crowd on the edge of stage after playing during an hour and a half. Another great moment shared with Steve Harris British Lion.

Let’s thank once again Steve Harris for his kindness and generosity. One more time, he took time to provide a signing session with the fans.
A legend, an inspiration, such an humble man fitted with a great talent: respect!
Thanks to SPM Prod for the night!
